MISSION COLLEGE STUDENT HEALTH AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR
(LAERDAL) PROTOCOL-SAMPLE
- Call 911, check ABC's
- If no pulse:
- push power button for one full second.
- stop CPR.
- attach electrodes to defibrillator pads and then place on victim's chest.
Do not use alcohol pads; remove any nitro patches.
- Follow Laerdal Defibrillator Instructions (receive training before use):
- push button to analyze and follow voice prompts: either "push to charge"
or "check pulse".
- shock (after analyzing) may be rendered up to three times, followed
by one minute of CPR.
- listen to AED voice prompt. If voice prompt says "press to shock", clear
the victim and push the button to shock.
- may repeat sequence of three shocks/one minute CPR, up to three times.
- if unsuccessful (in defibrillation), continue CPR until 911 arrives.
